Inspector Mark Lewis is responsible for the delivery of Policing for Portswood Sector.Inspector Mark Lewis

My main aims are for people to feel safer about the area where they live or work and to have confidence in the police that serve this area. We are focused on targeting those that commit the crimes that have a serious impact on the community and individuals, like Burglary, Vehicle Crime and Violent Crime.

However, we are also very aware of the impact that anti-social behaviour has on our communities which is manifested through damage and inconsiderate behaviour. By targeting these things it is hoped that the community will feel safer in their area and have increased confidence that the police will target their concerns. We currently look to engage with the community in all neighbourhoods through a variety of methods, including community panels, beat surgeries and street briefings to hear their concerns and listen to what they view are their priorities.

Working effectively in partnership we aim to deliver a quality service tackling crime and anti-social behaviour and make a real difference. The Safer Neighbourhoods teams have tackled community priorities including anti-social behaviour in Mansbridge and traffic concerns as well as engaging with student groups to work with the large number of students in the area. The aim is to keep students safe, making the university a safe place whilst also educating students and balancing the impact on local communities. The last year has seen some good work with partners and residents groups resulting in reductions in crime, meaning fewer victims. We aim to continue this work to reduce crime, reduce the impact of anti-social behaviour and improve the community’s quality of life, making them feel safer in their community and more confident in their police.

Portswood Sector is split in to five Safer Neighbourhoods teams:
