Inspector Tony Rowlinson took up his post at Portswood on September 1, 2008.

His main aims are:

• Putting people first – caring about those we serve and paying attention to their needs.
• Making Portswood safer by reducing crime and anti-social behaviour.
• Making people in Portswood feel safer through good neighbourhood policing and focusing on the service we give to victims of crime.
• Being good investigators, detecting crime and dealing with offenders and bringing them to justice.

He said: "Criminal damage, vehicle crime reduction and anti-social behaviour are priorities as it is these volume crimes that I feel have the potential to effect the quality of life for the residents in our communities the most.

"I am focused on improving the quality of life for our communities and reducing violent crime. The Safer neighbourhood Teams comprising of both police constables and Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) have a number of operations and initiatives they are working on to make Portswood safer."

• Operation Batcombe led by Sgt Jenkins. This is is an educational initiative in partnership with Southampton University which engages the student population in Southampton with the aims of making students at the university safe and feel safe while also balancing the impact on local communities.
• Operation Tidcombe is an initiative to reduce anti-social behaviour in Mansbridge. Sgt Noons leads on this. There is a strong partnership between Police, Community Safety at Southampton City Council and Swathling Housing to address longer term, more sustainable solutions to the area through environmental improvement. This compliments the short term enforcement of a current dispersal order in place until the end of November.
• Operation Corona is led by Inspector Rowlinson and enables an increased policing presence and operational effort using a range of policing tactics in those areas of Portswood Sector where both crime analysis and community feedback indicate there are hotspots requiring a response.

  The Portwood sector is split into five Safer Neighbourhood Teams:

  Sergeant Justin Noons leads the Swaythling SNT
  Sergeant Justin Noons leads the Banister Park and Bevois SNT
