Chief Inspector Alison Scott describes her approach to policing in the Southampton Central district: “In Central we aim to improve the quality of life for everyone who lives and works in the area. We are striving to further cut crime rates and lessen the fear of crime.
“Work continues to tackle anti-social behaviour and drug-related crime. Operation Phoenix has had a major impact on tackling drug-related crime in the city centre and the consolidation work continues. We act on all intelligence we receive and will make further arrests as needed. I would encourage anyone with information about any crime to get in contact with us. We all need to work together on tackling the crime and disorder issues.
“The city centre has a diverse population and one of the aims for the sector is to ensure that all of the different communities' policing needs are met. Partnership work is undertaken with other agencies to ensure there is an overall approach to tackling and reducing the fear of crime.
“We are working closely with the city council to improve safety in the parks. So far this action has led to several new initiatives, including more CCTV cameras and extra police patrols.
“Central was chosen as the location for the force’s inaugural Best Bar None scheme. This competition for bars and clubs promoted best practice among nightspots. Work continues with licensees and other businesses to make sure everyone can safely enjoy all the centre has to offer day and night.“
