Chief Inspector Kelly Whiting

Bitterne's Chief Inspector is Kelly Whiting:

“I am responsible for the policing of Southampton East which includes the sectors of Bitterne and Portswood.

"My role is to provide an excellent service, 24/7, to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour and to bring offenders to justice.

"To do this I have around 125 frontline uniformed police officers and PCSOs who work across five shifts as well as a Criminal Investigation Department and a range of non frontline departments working in support of these officers and PCSOs.

"To achieve my aim I also need the help and support of the public and partner agencies and to gain the trust, I need to improve the confidence that the community has in its policing service. Currently, every neighbourhood has an Engagement Officer assigned to it and a team of PCSOs who work on the local priorities set by the community. They consult the community at a series of community engagement meetings that are advertised on the specific beat pages of this site. I urge you to attend if you can and have your say.

"Those officers work closely with other agencies including the City Council, Housing Associations, Probation, The Youth Offending Team, Social Services etc. to provide long term sustainable solutions to issues that the community raises, whether this is to do with an anti-social hotspots, repeat crime location, a persistent offender or a victim.

"The unsung heroes are the emergency response officers who deal with emergency calls day and night and are often the first on the scene of some dangerous and often distressing situations. All calls to the police are prioritised in terms of their urgency and if your situation is life threatening or a crime is in progress, my aim is to have an officer with you within 15 minutes.

"No matter what their role, all officers should be smart, polite and respectful to you. If they fail to meet your expectations in this area I am very keen to hear about it and put this right. Should you become the victim of crime, I would also expect all of my officers to be able to explain whether they are able to investigate your crime; what that investigation will entail and to update you on the progress of the investigation in line with the 'Victim's Code.'

"I look forward to working with you to make the eastern side of Southampton feel as safe as possible."
