Chief Inspector Kelly WhitingBitterne's Chief Inspector is Kelly Whiting:

"As the new District Commander for the area surrounding Bitterne, I would like to share some of my aspirations with you.

My role is to provide an excellent service, 24/7, to over 80,000 residents;  to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour and to bring offenders to justice.

To do this I have around 80 frontline uniformed officers and PCSOs as well as a Criminal Investigation Department and a range of non frontline departments working in support of these officers and PCSOs.

To achieve my aim I also need the help and support of the public and partner agencies alike and to gain the trust I need to improve the confidence that the community has in its policing service.

Currently, every beat area has a dedicated Safer Neighbourhood Team, comprising 'beat bobbies' and PCSOs who tackle the local priorities set by the community. They consult the community at a series of community engagement meetings that are advertised on the specific beat pages of this site. May I urge you to attend if you can and have your say.

Those officers work closely with other agencies such as The City Council, Housing Associations, Probation, The Youth offending team, Social services etc. to provide long term sustainable solutions to issues that the community raises whether this is to do with an anti-social hotspot, repeat crime location, a persistent offender or a victim.

The unsung heroes are the shift officers who respond to emergency calls day and night and are often the first on the scene of some dangerous and often distressing situations. All calls to the police are prioritised in terms of their urgency and if your situation is dire I would hope to have an officer with you within 15 minutes.

No matter what their role, all officers should be smart, polite and respectful to you. If they fail to meet your expectations in this area I am very keen to hear about it and put this right. Should you become the victim of crime, I would also expect all of my officers to be able to explain whether they are able to investigate your crime; what that investigation will entail and to update you on the progress of the investigation in line with the 'Victim's Code.'

Finally, by April, every victim of crime should automatically have a personal visit from a member of my staff if they want it. The officer will also have details of your local Safer Neighbourhood Team and a leaflet for you to complete and return, to tell us about issues in your area.

I look forward to working with you to make Bitterne district feel as safe as possible."
