Chief Superintendent Matthew Greening (pictured, left) is the Commander in charge of policing in Southampton. Read his blog
"I could fill this web page with lots of statistics to show what we are achieving in terms of reducing crime and making the city safer. However, for once, and without suggesting any political affiliation, I can agree with the Government that the most important thing is how people feel about the police service we give. As long as we realise that sometimes people's perceptions of safety can be greatly affected by relatively rare events or big media stories then I am happy to commit myself and my staff to working on improving what people think of their police service.
"Of course we will still be working hard on reducing crime and catching criminals but we'll also put more emphasis on having a better presence in every part of the city and delivering a better service in all we do.
" There's a new national 'Policing Pledge' which you can find on these pages. It's a commitment about the service we give, more accessible and more responsive.
"There is a local neighbourhood policing team in every part of the city and if you don’t know your own team for where you live or work, or you want to find out what they are doing for you then you can learn more about them through the links on this web site. Their work is set by your priorities so if you want to have a say in that then please contact them. They will be pleased to hear from you and so would I. You can contact me about any policing issue by using'Your Voice Counts' on this site.
"I am very proud to be the police commander for the city. I have worked here from Police Constable to Chief Superintendent and I hope to remain as your police commander for as long as I can continue to make the city safer."

Plodcasts
The police in Southampton have launched their first ever podcast, known as a Plodcast! It's the second series from the force but the first to feature Southampton.
This first episode is about the SKAA - Southampton Kids Alcohol Awareness event in April this year. Ian Sainsbury went along to the first SKAA event in the city. The police led multi-agency project aims to educate youngsters aged 11-16 in a fun and informative way about the dangers and problems with excessive drinking. Ian went to find out more and also did his best to try and look 'cool' at the evening neon music party event! He succeeded in making this plodcast but failed miserably at the being 'cool' bit!.
