The force wide roll out of Safer Neighbourhoods began in April 2007, and we have delivered on our promise to provide every neighbourhood in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight with a dedicated Safer Neighbourhoods team. You can find your team using the postcode search on the home page of this website.
Safer Neighbourhoods aims to provide:
Access to policing or community safety services through a named point of contact. You can find out who is responsible for policing in your area by visiting the local policing section of this website or by calling us on 0845 045 4545. As Safer Neighbourhoods progresses and teams are set up in every area, you will be able to contact the team responsible for your neighbourhood.
Influence over community safety priorities in your neighbourhood. We need your help to identify what is important in your community. Safer Neighbourhoods teams will be actively seeking your views. There will be a range of ways that you can have your say, through talking to Safer Neighbourhoods team members, contributing at public meetings and neighbourhood panels, attending street briefings or by contacting your local team by email, telephone or letter. Your views will help prioritise the work that needs to be done to tackle the issues that are of greatest concern locally.
Interventions. We will be robust in tackling community concerns. Once we know what is important to you, and what your priorities are, we will work together with you and other agencies to solve problems and make a difference. Joint action with communities and partners solves problems.
Answers. We will provide feedback to you on what we can do and what we have done in response to your concerns. We know that sometimes we may not be able to solve a problem completely. If this happens, we will be open and transparent about the reasons why.
Is Safer Neighbourhoods the same as Neighbourhood Policing?
You may have already heard or seen the term Neighbourhood Policing being used, for example in the national media. Neighbourhood Policing is being introduced throughout England and Wales. Safer Neighbourhoods is the name for the introduction of Neighbourhood Policing in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
We have chosen to use the term Safer Neighbourhoods as we believe the best way to achieve neighbourhood improvement is for the community, police and partners - such as the local authority, health and fire services - to all work together.
Safer Neighbourhoods is not solely about policing.
I've been phoned by a market research company about Safer Neighbourhoods
Hampshire Constabulary has commissioned Swift Research, a market research company, to conduct telephone surveys on our behalf. This will allow us to measure perceptions of, and confidence in, Hampshire Constabulary and the way we police.
You may receive a phone call from Swift Research asking you to participate in a survey. Should you wish to discuss any aspect of the survey or have any questions regarding the information being requested please do not hesitate to contact Force Enquiry centre on 0845 045 45 45.
