Inspector Greg Moore is in charge of Safer Neighbourhoods policing in Southsea.

He said: “I am proud to be the Sector Inspector for Southsea. Your Safer Neighbourhoods teams wholly committed to continue to deliver a first class service to the communities of Portsmouth. They are some of the most experienced teams in the city and they bring a breadth and depth of knowledge to their work.

I have managed Portsmouth Central for the last year and will bring my experience there to the role. This includes the work with the Porstmouth Buisness Crime Reduction Partnership  to work together with the community to prevent and reduce crime.

Prior to this I have worked with the Targeted Patrol teams where I have been able to gain a good understanding of policing required in Portsmouth. I continue to cover the city as Duty Inspector on a rota with the other Portsmouth Inspectors as well as my focus on Southsea Sector.

Southsea is an unsurpassed and interesting place within our region; I am passionate about working with the community to make the area a safer and more enjoyable place to work, live and visit."

I shall ensure officers are easily identifiable, accessible, and visible to you in the delivery of our services. My officers will promote and encourage you all to become involved and engaged in the communities in which you live and provide a range of forums to ensure your concerns are heard, listened to, and addressed.

In doing so, I recognise that public support and involvement is key to ensuring we tackle and address those individuals that would seek to undermine community values. So please take every opportunity to attend meetings, speak with your officers or just stop them in the street and let them know how we are doing"

There are four separate Beat areas in the Southsea Sector. The Sergeants responsible for each of these Wards are as follows:

St Judes - PS Paul Baker
Southsea Central - PS Paul Baker
Milton - PS Stu Boyd
Eastney - PS Stu Boyd

These teams consist of police constables and police community support officers. The team's ultimate aim is to improve the quality of life for the local community by working in partnership with other organisations involved in Community Safety to tackle issues of crime and disorder and anti-social behaviour. The teams employ a variety of engagement methods such as beat surgeries, newsletters, surveys, public meetings etc to listen to the public, understand what is important to them and then set the top three Community Priorities to concentrate on during the coming months. We have embraced new ways of contacting the community including Facebook & Twitter but recognise the reassurance provided by a personal visit to a victim of crime or ASB if required.

My individual officers perform high visibility patrols on foot, bicycle and in vehicles if required and attend numerous community events to provide general reassurance. The officers have much pride in their work and always aim to provide an excellent service. The neighbourhood officers do not work 24 hours per day, however support is provided by the District Targeted Patrol Teams which cover the whole area 24/7 responding to urgent and emergency calls.

Community Tasking Group - how to influence policing priorities

Every month we take part in a joint agancy meeting to help better your community. We call this the Community Tasking Group.

The Community Tasking Group is made up of key professionals from various organisations and their objective is to work in partnership to resolve local community priorities. These priorities are identified through different consultation processes with local groups and also individuals.

Together we work to resolve quality of life issues that impact on the local community and often include anti social behaviour, youth problems, environmental issues and anything else that could have a negative impact on your and your neighbours lives. As a member of the local community you have a voice and your concerns can be delivered to this group for action.

If you have a concern about quality of life issues as an individual or as a group of people then please contact these who will take your concerns to the group and update you of any action agreed.
