Chief Inspector Duncan Weston arrives at Rushmoor district with over 20 years of policing experience within Hampshire Constabulary.

Ch Insp Weston is already familiar with the area, having most recently been District Commander for the North and East Roads Policing Unit, based at Farnborough.

With 20 years in the force, he has a long policing history in the north of the county, having worked in many roles including time as the sector inspector in Yateley and Fleet.

Our area covers the towns of Aldershot and Farnborough and is made up of around 36,000 homes and 90,000 residents.

Our response team operating from Farnborough provide our emergency 24/7 response. These officers are likely to be the ones who will attend incidents in the first instance.

Each electoral ward in Rushmoor also has a dedicated Safer Neighbourhoods Team made up of police constables and Police Community Support Officers. Their role is to be a visible and recognisable presence in each neighbourhood. The Safer Neighbourhoods teams work with other organisations to look at ways to reduce crime and disorder in their beat area.

Our aims at Rushmoor are:

  • To provide and excellent service
  • To catch criminals and manage offenders
  • To have an active presence in every neighbourhood
  • To protect our communities

As the district commander as well as delivering the service above, my job is also to ensure that:

  • We make the most of our resources
  • That my team is equipped to deliver

In each neighbourhood, residents can influence the day to day policing priorities through the regularly held beat surgeries. Please come along and tell your local officers what it is you feel we need to do to make your neighbourhood safer.

If you are unable to attend a surgery or have any issues you wish to raise, please follow the links to the local team page for your area, or alternatively fill out a ‘Your Voice Counts’ form.

The Policing Pledge sets out how it is we will endeavour to provide an excellent service. If you have any feedback on our service or on how we should improve our website please remember ‘Your Voice Counts.’

Rushmoor is a safe place and in the past year despite the economic downturn, we have again seen reductions in the numbers of crimes committed. This is down to the sheer hard work and determination of your local officers and I am proud of the service they deliver.

The summer saw us focusing on reducing anti-social behaviour. Our efforts here in Rushmoor have resulted in over 1,100 fewer calls to rowdy and inconsiderate behaviour and a massive 35% reduction in anti-social behaviour this year.

We have been vigorous in using our powers to confiscate alcohol from youngsters in public places and our efforts this summer saw the disposal of more than 650 cans or bottles. We have backed this up with a test purchase operation to target and convict those who were selling alcohol to underage children.

In an effort to reduce this blight on our communities local officers now have access to new body worn video cameras. We are using new powers to ban drunken people from the town centres before they cause trouble and arresting or giving fixed penalty notices to those who overstep the mark.

The local Community Safety Partnership in Rushmoor is very strong and it is by joint working that we all achieve the results we do.

Regrettably we still attend many break-ins where doors and windows have not been locked or where valuable items have been left in vehicles. Please check your home and vehicles, are you a likely victim, if so we can help with home and vehicle security advice via you local Safer Neighbourhoods officer.

2010 will present us with fresh challenges, so again if you want to be part of shaping the service we deliver, visit your local safer Neighbourhood page.
