Chief Inspector Sarah Jackson is the Hart and Rushmoor commander.

The Rushmoor area covers the towns of Aldershot and Farnborough and is made up of around 36,000 homes and 90,000 residents.

Below is an overview of policing within Rushmoor district in 2010.

As of December 13, I took up post as the Hart and Rushmoor District Commander. I was very pleased to have been appointed to this post and look forward to working across the whole district. I have strong links with this part of Hampshire having been the Hart District Commander for the past two-and-a-half years and also having previously worked at both Aldershot and Farnborough.

Since April 2010, there have been 369 fewer victims who have reported crime to the police, compared with the same time last year - just over 7.5% fewer crimes. Instances of burglary, both at people’s homes and at premises such as garages, sheds, outbuildings and business premises have remained stable compared with this time last year.

Violent crime as a whole has dropped slightly, although those offences where people are assaulted and are slightly injured have increased slightly.

We did see a spike in offences linked to the night time economy in Aldershot earlier this year, but through a lot of partnership working with the Aldershot Town Centre Group this has improved and we have seen a noticeable reduction in the number of offences in recent months.

Theft of motor vehicles has dropped by 40% whilst theft from motor vehicle offences has remained stable.

Our Safer Neighbourhood Teams (SNTs), led by Inspector Justin Browne and based at Aldershot and Farnborough, have undertaken some extensive investigations into reducing and preventing neighbour disputes. This has resulted in charges being brought against families who continually disturb the everyday lives of those surrounding them. In Farnborough a number of youths have been responsible for a large number of crimes from assaults to damage. Officers have been determined to bring these offenders to justice and this has led to placing them into secure accommodation.

The Aldershot SNT continues to robustly police the night time economy and has seen very good results due to the Early Intervention Patrol policy. Dedicated patrols take place in the early evening on Friday and Saturday nights to reassure the public and to provide a police presence to those who may chose to offend. The introduction of Body Worn Video assists officers to secure evidence. Work is currently taking place with the door staff of the different public houses to work more cohesively and improve evidential standards to further reduce the level of violent crimes in the town.

In 2011 work will begin to examine how to best facilitate community forums, known as Police and Communities Together (PACT). Inspector Browne will be gathering views from local councillors and working with Rushmoor Borough Council. It is really important that in deciding on the community priorities we obtain information from as many sources as possible so if If you are interested in being involved in this process please contact you local Safer Neighbourhoods Team below.

The Targeted Patrol Teams, led by Inspector Matt Reeves and based out of Farnborough Police Station, have continued to provide the residents and visitors in Rushmoor with the 24/7 response to incidents and crimes reported to us. The incidents and crimes they attend will vary greatly in terms of severity.

The Tasking Team, who focus on dealing with those people who are prolific offenders within the district, have been focusing on tackling those individuals dealing drugs locally. It is important to continue to tackle this activity because of the wider impact it can have on local communities. We are then able to utilise the powers under the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003 to close premises where class A drugs are used, produced or supplied, which has happened recently at an address in Farnborough.

Whilst the Policing Pledge itself has been removed we are still working to its principles in relation to re-contacting people who contact us, keeping victims of crime updated and responding to incidents of dissatisfaction with the service promptly.

If you wish to discuss a local policing problem with your local Safer Neighbourhood Team they can be contacted on:

Farnborough SNT - farnborough.snt@hampshire.pnn.police.uk

In terms of the merger of Hart and Rushmoor districts it is my intention that the SNTs will remain unchanged as they have specific geographical responsibility and are located in those areas for that very reason. We are currently undertaking work to look at the best option for delivering the most effective 24/7 response function to ensure all areas of each district are appropriately policed. In addition the Hampshire Police Authority has recently approved the purchase of mobile data terminals for these teams to enable them to complete vital administrative work whilst out on patrol, rather than having to return to the station.
