Fleet Town Centre and Pondtail Safer neighbourhoods team

We are based out of Fleet Police Station.

Locally, we work with your community to find out what matters most where you live. We will work with you and our partner agencies to agree the main priorities for the area and how we will work together to tackle them.

Graffiti Removal Week
Safer Neighbourhood Teams around the area will be taking part in the Graffiti Removal Week which is taking place from September 20 until September 24.

Please contact us with any areas that are affected by graffiti and we will pass this information on.

We are yet to set the new community priorities - please get in touch with the team if you wish to suggest any.

Do you have a community concern?

The beat team would like our local community to express any concerns or ongoing issues they have. This is in order to potentially raise a community priority. If you would like to make contact with any member of your Safer Neighbourhoods team, you can do so using the details provided.

These are the priorities that people in your local area previously agreed with the Safer Neighbourhoods team. You can influence these priorities by contacting your team, attending a meeting or speaking to members of the team when you see them out and about.

Action we have taken in relation to your priorities

You said: Cycling offences, in particular cycling on pavements in the town centre

We did:

Many cyclists have been riding their bicycles on the pavements in the town centre. It has been raised as a regular problem as the High Street can be extremely busy with pedestrians. There are some cyclists who do not abide by the regulations and obstruct people who are walking in the town centre. Patrols have been conducted throughout the summer in the beat area and cyclists have been stopped and spoken to.

Fleet Road will also be targeted from Kings Road junction down to the railway station to target commuters who are committing cycling offences, including personal safety issues in relation to lighting.

The beat teams have collated data in relation to this type of problem and, where necessary and proportionate, offenders have been dealt with by way of a £30 fixed penalty notice. There has been a reduction in incidents reported and also the number of cyclists that have had to be stopped by local police. The beat team will continue to actively conduct a high visible presence and educate cyclists to cycle considerately and safely. We will continue to issue fixed penalty notices to those cyclists who choose to put pedestrians at risk.

If you have concerns about cyclists on pavements that have an impact on you, please contact the beat team and provide road names and any relevant times when these offences are taking place.

You said: Anti-social behaviour in the area of the recreational ground The Views, Harlington Way, Fleet

We did:

With the summer well under way patrols have been continuing with the assistance of Hampshire County Council's ACSOs and Hart District Council's community wardens. A considerable amount of alcohol has been seized from youths in the area and when this is done a letter is sent to the adults responsible for these youths to advise them of what has occurred.

Throughout the year we will continue to target those underage drinkers who persist in drinking in the area. With the assistance of the local licensing team we will also monitor all licensed premises and any retailer found to be supplying alcohol to under aged children will be dealt with robustly.

Local Safer Neighbourhood officers from Fleet are attending Summer Scam at The Views, Harlington Way, Fleet on Thursday evenings throughout the summer, engaging with local youths and assisting the local youth team.

Crime reduction

Officers are available to work with you to produce a free crime reduction strategy for your premises and surrounding environment. Areas we will review include lighting, environmental features, criminal activity, building and staff security using a specific checklist. Please contact us if you would like to arrange a visit. We want to stop offenders committing offences in the first instance and bring those who are committing crime to justice.

Fleet Business Watch

Crime reduction:

The Safer Neighbourhoods Team of Fleet and Church Crookham have been offering free assistance to business premises throughout our area in order to further reduce the crime rate.

Attention has further been given to aspects of anti-social behaviour and damage to the environment. Premises have been visited and advice has been given, ranging from shops, office complexes, care home and industrial units. The feedback from these conducted visits has been very positive. We already enjoy a low crime rate but why not seek our free advice on security for the premises, your staff and local environment?

You can contact us by phone or e-mail as per the contact details below. A few minutes spent now could save you a lot of time and expense in the future.

Anti-social behaviour

Following on from a recent specific operation it is hoped you will have seen a significant reduction in this problem through co-operation of the affected business premises, Hart District Council and your local Safer Neighbourhoods Team.

Such operations will continue to build on the success last year when the North and East Operational Command Unit, of which we are part, achieved a 25% reduction.

Crime review:

This area enjoys a low crime rate but this could be further reduced. Business premises still suffer fraudulent use of credit cards and ATMs, breakage of shop window glass frontages, shop lifting and drive offs from petrol filling stations without payment. Some of these can be reduced by adopting a crime reduction strategy in which we can help.

Simple precautions can include the re-positioning of attractive stock away from easy escape routes or under areas manned as counters.

We can offer more specific advice from our experience so why not put us to the test?

The main losses for licensed premises are bottles of spirits and cider so consider positioning of such items. Retail sellers of vehicle fuel probably have the highest overall losses which require considerable investigation time as often details are required from other forces due to the possible location of the vehicle owner's registered address.

Electronic surveillance devices are available to reduce this type of crime so those that have them installed cause the crime to move to those without such security measures.

We can offer more specific advice from our experience so why not put us to the test?

Fleet Pond

All of Fleet Pond is an alcohol free zone and signs have been put up around the pond to warn people of this. It has been brought to the attention of the beat team that people have been lighting fires and irresponsibly causing damage to the pond area and equipment.

Naturally, we would like to see everyone enjoying the location but discourage large groups drinking and acting in a irresponsible manner.

Please be advised that this will not be tolerated and those that are identified will find themselves part of a criminal investigation. Please report anyone who is seen acting suspiciously in the pond area - our contact details are located at regular intervals on the notice boards around the pond footpaths.

Parents/guardians - please be suspicious if your children come home smelling strongly of smoke and challenge them about this.

Patrols of Fleet Pond with countryside rangers and wardens regularly take place and the joint approach to checking this area has proven successful, with the ability to learn from each other and discuss some of the problems and issues that are of most concern.

Issues for the countryside rangers should be addressed to Steve Lyons or Jo Lawrence. For more information on the Countryside Services that are provided, please visit Hart District Council's website and follow the links to Fleet Pond.

No Cold Calling

On Thursday, July 1 and Friday, July 2 we conducted a Rogue Trader’s presentation in the Hart shopping centre. This was a popular event which resulted in several roads being nominated for the No Cold Calling Scheme. Some 59 residents in the Fleet and Church Crookham area provided their contact details to be forwarded onto Hampshire Trading Standards who will initiate the process and within the next few months expect to see several new zones in the Fleet and Church Crookham area.

The Fleet Safer Neighborhoods Team is working together with Trading Standards and Hampshire County Council to raise awareness of the No Cold Calling Zone scheme.

This is an established concept that aims to deter bogus callers and make residents feel safer and more confident in their own homes. For further information follow the link below or for advice on how to have this set up in your area contact PC Lehec at Fleet Police Station.

Op Shutout

Operation Shutout is the name given to the police response to a dwelling burglary in the area and includes a presentation which offers crime prevention advice and tips to prevent you becoming a victim of crime.

These presentations normally last between one to one-and-a-half hours - anyone who wishes to have the team provide an Op Shutout presentation should contact us on the details below.

We are pleased to announce that the beat area has been visited by officers on foot and all the residential properties have been issued with a team letter along with Home Office crime prevention advice.

These packs have been issued by the Neighbourhood beat team to residents over the past 14 months and give residents advice and support regarding burglary and vehicle crime prevention. If you are a new resident to the beat area, have not received a pack or if you have misplaced it, please contact the beat team and we will provide you with one.

Oakley Park

Regular patrols have been conducted in the park and around the nearby roads. This June, we identified several youngsters within the park in possession of a Class B drug.

Unfortunately this was not an isolated incident and police attendance was requested on more than one occasion to deal with this matter robustly. This is an offence which will be dealt with as vigorously as possible.

We will as a matter of course, bring youths to the attention of their parents or guardians as soon as practicable and make them fully aware of the consequences of their child's actions.
