We are based out of Basingstoke Police Station.

Locally, we work with your community to find out what matters most where you live. We will work with you and our partner agencies to agree the main priorities for the area and how we will work together to tackle them.

The current priorities in South Ham are:

  • Anti-social behaviour in and around the Sandys Road area

  • Anti-social behaviour in and around the Russell Howard Park area

  • Cycle issues across South Ham. To include cycle lights for children, safety advice, cycle marking, crime prevention and investigation and enforcing sensible and considerate adult cycling.

These are the priorities that people in your local area have agreed with the Safer Neighbourhoods Team. You can influence these priorities by contacting your team, attending a meeting or speaking to members of the team when you see them out and about.

Action we have taken in relation to your previous priorities

You said: Graffiti

We did:

During the month of May we have had no new reports of graffiti. This could be down to local residents not reporting incidents to police or no actual graffitti taking place.

Patrols have been conducted over the area of South Ham, with a letter drop around Russell Howard Park Pavilion asking residents to come forward to report issues in that area. Due to the letter drop, a few residents have now reported some incidents, but these were mainly anti-social behaviour issues rather than graffiti, but as stated in the letter we were after any issues taking place around the pavilion.

Patrols are still ongoing in these places.

You said: Garage and non-dwelling burglaries

We did:

During the month of April there were five reported incidents to police concerning garage breaks; two in Elizabeth Road, St Lukes Close, Paddock Road and Chivers Close. Most of the items taken are large or heavy which would need transport, some of the items taken were scrap metal items.

Patrols have been conducted around the garage blocks and we have also completed home visits and spoken with the victims. Residents are reminded about not keeping expensive items in their garages since these are only meant to be used to keep vehicles in.

You said: Parking issues

We did:

Parking over the whole of Basingstoke seems to be a big issue for local residents with a lot of neighbour disputes stemming from small parking problems, leading to some vehicles/properties being damaged as a result of this. As a team we have been working with Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council to deal with some of the parking issues. We have also been looking at vehicles which are being sold from the road side. There are two issues with this, you need a street trading licence to sell vehicles from the road side and also the vehicles take up parking spaces, which in turn could be used by local residents to park their vehicles.

Offenders brought to justice

Garage breaks have been a priority issue in South Ham and a man has been arrested and charged with one burglary so far this year.

If you are worried about calling the police to give information on 101, then call the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111. The key thing is that we need the information in order to tackle the issues that are affecting residents in South Ham.

How you can take action

Beat surgeries

We would like to hear your concerns about the area you live in.

South Ham beat surgeries:

  • More dates will be published soon

Come and tell us what is important to you in your neighbourhood, and play your part in setting local priorities. This will be a great chance for you to speak to us and for us to get to know the local community too.

Do you have a bike?

How well could you describe your bike?

It only takes a few seconds to steal one, so keep a record of your cycle details, and keep it secure to deter thieves.

  • Mark your bike with your postcode and house number
  • Keep a note of the bicycle frame number. This will add identification should the cycle be recovered by the police.
  • Take a photo of your bike on your mobile or with a camera and store it in a safe place. This will help us return your bike if and when it is recovered.

Please complete the attached Bike Safe form, email it to us and store the details safely.

Volunteering

You could also volunteer to help the teams working in your local area and make a real difference to your neighbourhood.  Click here for more information about police support volunteers.
