The Safer Neighbourhoods Team for Rooksdown is:
PC Ian Hoile and PCSO Keith Patching

We are based out of Basingstoke Police Station.
Locally, we work with your community to find out what matters most where you live. We will work with you and our partner agencies to agree the main priorities for the area and how we will work together to tackle them.
The community priorities that have been identified for the neighbourhood are:
- Anti-social behaviour in and around the Norrie Court and Canadian Way area
- Stop vehicle crime at the hospital
- Set up new Neighbourhood Watch schemes
These are the priorities that people in your local area have agreed with the Safer Neighbourhoods Team. You can influence these priorities by contacting your team, attending a meeting or speaking to members of the team when you see them out and about.
Action we have taken in relation to your priorities
You said: Anti-social behaviour in and around the Norrie Court and Canadian Way area
We did:
We have revieved very few calls to police regarding anti-social behaviour in this area. High visibility patrols on foot, bike and in car seem to be having the desired effect and these are set to continue over the summer months.
We are working with partner agencies to resolve matters. These partner agencies include Sentinel Housing and the Hampshire County Council and Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council driven Community Safety Patrol Officers (CSPOs).
You may have already seen them actively patrolling on foot or in car in the area. Should you have any issues and have not had the chance to stop local police teams, any issues you have can be taken up with the local CSPOs who will notify and work together with local police teams to hopefully resolve the issue.
You said: Vehicle crime at the hospital
We did:
We continue to carry out patrols throughout the hospital site along with the community safety patrol officers. Through our high visibility patrols and identification of vulnerable vehicles we have noticed a dramatic decrease in incidents.
We will continue to carry out vulnerable vehicle checks at the hospital car parks. Where possible we advise drivers in person about vehicle security and if this is not possible, a letter is sent to them with suitable crime prevention advice.
We also regularly liaise with the hospital security and the car park security teams. You should always remember to properly secure your vehicle and never leave valuable items on show which could be tempting for would be thieves.
You said: Set up new Neighbourhood Watch schemes
We did:
We have been actively working with the community safety patrol officers and other relevant people to continue to promote and start the Neighbourhood Watch scheme in Rooksdown.
There are currently several Neighbourhood Watch schemes running in Rooksdown. However we are keen to increase this and have as many households as possible involved.
We held a meeting with the CSPOs and current members of Neighbourhood Watch to consolidate and discuss expansion of the scheme throughout the Rooksdown area and we are currently in the process of appointing a Neighbourhood Watch area co-ordinator.
Neighbourhood Watch allows us to work closely with people in the community and makes information sharing easier and more direct.
We can quickly update you about any incidents that happen on the beat and also circulate important crime prevention advice. It also gives you another way to contact us and raise any issues or provide information about suspicious activity. If you would like to get involved please contact us.

Safer Vehicles
Please take a few moments to read our advice below:
- Don’t leave anything in your car – if it’s not there, then it can’t be stolen
- Choose a stereo that can be removed and make sure you take it with you!
- You should also mark it with your registration number or postcode, in case it is stolen.
- Thieves aren’t picky, so don’t leave even low-value items.
- Often thieves will smash and grab first and look later to see if what they’ve stolen is valuable.
- Don’t hide it – if you hide items under the seat or in the glove box, chances are someone will have watched you.
- If you cannot avoid leaving something in your car, put it in your boot before you begin your journey.
- Don’t leave valuables in your car even for a minute – it only takes a thief a few seconds to smash a window and get what they want, so don’t take the chance.
- Your car isn’t safe on your driveway – nearly half of all incidents where items are stolen from cars happen when they are parked overnight, close to the owner’s home.
- Don’t leave your house keys or anything with your address on it in your vehicle - someone could steal your keys and then let themselves into your home.
- Always secure your car.
- Always lock your car and wind your windows up, even if you are just posting a letter or going into a petrol station.
- If you are stationary in traffic, keep your doors locked and don’t wind your windows too far down – someone could reach in and try to grab something off your passenger seat.
How you can take action
Your Voice Counts - community priorities
Your Safer Neighbourhoods team wants to hear from you. Have your say on what the policing priorities should be for your area, by clicking here to download a copy of the form and send it back to your local team.
Beat surgeries
Beat surgeries will be held at Somerfield in Winklebury from 2pm:
- More dates to follow soon
Come and tell us what is important to you in your neighbourhood, and play your part in setting local priorities.
Do you have a bike?
How well could you describe your bike?
It only takes a few seconds to steal one, so keep a record of your cycle details, and keep it secure to deter thieves.
- Mark your bike with your postcode and house number
- Keep a note of the bicycle frame number. This will add identification should the cycle be recovered by the police.
- Take a photo of your bike on your mobile or with a camera and store it in a safe place. This will help us return your bike if and when it is recovered.
Please complete the attached Bike Safe form, email it to us and store the details safely.
