We are all based out of the Old Basing Police Office.

Locally, we work with your community to find out what matters most where you live. We will work with you and our partner agencies to agree the main priorities for the area and how we will work together to tackle them.

The community priorities that have now been decided for Popley are:

  • Anti-social behaviour around Chineham Park building

  • Anti-social behaviour around Shakespeare Road

  • Tackle drug related issues on Abbey Road and the surrounding area

These are the priorities that people in your local area have agreed with the Safer Neighbourhoods Team. You can influence these priorities by contacting your team, attending a meeting or speaking to members of the team when you see them out and about.

The PSNP consists of the local Safer Neighbourhoods Team, Community Wardens, housing association representatives, Hampshire County Council representatives, Basingstoke and Deane council representatives and of course local residents. Please see the details at the bottom of this webpage if you would like further information about joining the PSNP as a shadow or full member.

Action we have taken in relation to your previous priorities

Here are details of the work the Popley Safer Neighbourhoods team carried out in order to achieve the previous priorities.

You said: Anti-social behaviour around Chineham Park building

We did:

The Popley Safer Neighbourhoods team and Community Safety Patrol Officers have increased patrols in this area. Any individuals stopped for anti-social behaviour or being underage and in possession of alcohol have had their alcohol seized and their personal details taken. Parents of the teenagers who have been found acting in an anti-social manner have been spoken with and the teenagers have been warned about this behaviour.

The Popley Safer Neighbourhoods team has also been working closely with Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council in order to educate and supervise local teenagers who are prolific offenders of anti-social behaviour.

You said: Anti-social behaviour around Shakespeare Road

We did:

Popley is regularly patrolled by all patrolling agencies. Popley has been quiet this period in relation to motorbike nuisance. We will however, continue to patrol known nuisance areas such as Shakespeare Road and Carpenters Down woods.

You said: Tackle drug related issues on Abbey Road and the surrounding area

We did:

Abbey Road and the surrounding area are known for their drug dealing and as a result have been actively patrolled by the patrolling agencies including the police, CSPOs and PCSOs for Popley. We are pleased to report that some high profile arrests have been made in relation to drug dealing.

We are receiving intelligence reports from members of the public regarding drug related activity around Abbey Road since it became a priority area. These are extremely useful and essential to tackling this problem and we encourage more people to come forward with information. We will also continue to carry out regular patrols in this area.

If you see or hear anything about drug related activity please inform your local beat officer whilst out on patrol or by calling using the non emergency number 101 or by calling 0845 045 45 45.

Justice Seen Justice Done

One of the current core priorities for Popley is drug misuse in Abbey Road and the surrounding area. On May 26 whilst patrolling Abbey Road a known drug user was spotted on a bike. The man attempted to avoid police. After a short pursuit the man was stopped and searched in Selby Walk. As a result three wraps of cocaine were found on the man and he was arrested. The man was later charged for possession of cocaine.

Popley Safer Neighbourhoods Panel

The Popley Safer Neighbourhoods Panel (PSNP) is a group consisting of police, housing associations, local councillors, council representatives, local headteachers, local businesses and residents, and meets every quarter to vote on three core priorities for the Popley area from a list chosen by our residents.

How you can take action

Do you have a bike?

How well could you describe your bike?

It only takes a few seconds to steal one, so keep a record of your cycle details, and keep it secure to deter thieves.

  • Mark your bike with your postcode and house number
  • Keep a note of the bicycle frame number. This will add identification should the cycle be recovered by the police.
  • Take a photo of your bike on your mobile or with a camera and store it in a safe place. This will help us return your bike if and when it is recovered.

Please complete the attached Bike Safe form, email it to us and store the details safely.

If you have any information about crimes or issues that affect the community and you would like to remain anonymous you can contact the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
