Locally, we work with your community to find out what matters most where you live. We will work with you and our partner agencies to agree the main priorities for the area and how we will work together to tackle them.

The community priorities identified for Old Basing as are:

  • Reduce burglary and theft from motor vehicles around Old Basing and Lychpit
  • Reduce speeding throughout Old Basing and Lychpit
  • Reduce ASB around Old Basing and Lychpit

These are the priorities that people in your local area have agreed with the Safer Neighbourhoods team. You can influence these priorities by contacting your team, attending a meeting or speaking to members of the team when you see them out and about.

Action we have taken in relation to your priorities

You said:  Reduce speeding throughout Old Basing and Lychpit

We did:

The Roads Policing Unit has attended different locations throughout the parish and assessed them to see if they are suitable for speed enforcement. The locations have been selected and the enforcement will take place throughout August.

You said:  Reduce anti-social behaviour around Old Basing and Lychpit

We did:

Due to the time of year and the increase of house parties around the parish, the Safer Neighbourhoods Panel has decided to vote this priority in. We all understand that persons leaving school will want to celebrate but when these parties spill out in to the street causing alarm and distress to nearby residents it is unacceptable and will be dealt with by the police.

You said: Reduce burglary and theft from motor vehicles around Old Basing and Lychpit

We did:

Vulnerable vehicle forms have been given out to vehicle owners that are leaving their car at risk by leaving car windows open, car doors unlocked and leaving valuables on display. Recently we had three thefts from motor vehicles on Belle Vue Road. Arrests have been made.

Neighbourhood Watch schemes (NHW)

Following the more recent housing developments in the neighbourhood we are keen to promote Neighbourhood Watch. This is an excellent way for you to learn first hand from police what is happening in your community. If you would like to know more about starting up a scheme in your area and what is involved then please make contact with us.

Do you have a bike?

How well could you describe your bike?

It only takes a few seconds to steal one, so keep a record of your cycle details, and keep it secure to deter thieves.

  • Mark your bike with your postcode and house number
  • Keep a note of the bicycle frame number. This will add identification should the cycle be recovered by the police.
  • Take a photo of your bike on your mobile or with a camera and store it in a safe place. This will help us return your bike if and when it is recovered. Please complete the attached Bike Safe form, email it to us and store the details safely.

Volunteering

You could also volunteer to help the teams working in your local area and make a real difference to your neighbourhood.  Click here for more information about police support volunteers.
