Hatch Warren and Beggarwood

Your Safer Neighbourhoods Team is made up of police officers, special constables, police community support officers or volunteers. We are working together with the community and other partners to tackle local problems and improve the quality of life in your neighbourhood.

Last updated on: Monday, October 24

The Safer Neighbourhoods Team for Hatch Warren is:

PC Aaron Webb (left) and PCSO Rafal Szmydynski (right).

We are based out of Basingstoke Police Station.

Locally, we work with your community to find out what matters most where you live. We will work with you and our partner agencies to agree the main priorities for the area and how we will work together to tackle them.

The current priorities for Hatch Warren and Beggarwood are:

  • To target vehicles that are driven and parked dangerously and inconsiderately in identified areas around the schools and community centre

  • To tackle anti-social behaviour caused around the beat and to regularly patrol the community centre, parks and development site on Beggarwood Woodland Park

  • To patrol the schools during the holiday period to provide a visible presence in order to target anti-social behaviour and criminal damage.

These are the priorities that people in your local area have agreed with the Safer Neighbourhoods Team. You can influence these priorities by contacting your team, attending a meeting or speaking to members of the team when you see them out and about.

Actions we are taking in relation to your priorities

You said: To target traffic offences in around the Danebury Road area

We did:

Police have patrolled the schools when possible however this is to be ongoing as the issue is long term. We are working hard to address this issue and ask that parents and children take extra special care when ariving, parking and leaving the school area.

You said: To tackle anti-social behaviour

We did:

The parks and community centre are being patrolled regularly and now that the weather is nicer more people are using these communal areas. There have been very few incidents occurring at the community centre and Beggarwood Park so far. Alcohol and cigarettes are being confiscated from any underage individuals when seen. Patrols will continue throughout the day and evenings

If you would like to report any problems relating to anti-social behaviour please contact the police via the 101 or 0845 045 45 45 numbers.

You said: To target vehicle crime in known hotspots

We did:

Regular patrols have been carried out in all major car parks and residential areas to target vulnerable vehicles. Vulnerability Awareness Scheme tickets have been issued when necessary. Vulnerability Awareness Scheme patrols will continue as the weather gets nicer and car windows get left open.

We aim to carry out as many patrols as we can of the whole area and where we see anything that may be inviting to a criminal; we shall make you aware of this in an attempt to reduce that risk to you. This would include leaving valuables in your car, leaving the garage door or windows open or leaving valuables out in clear sight.

Other news

There has, in the past, been a spate of vehicles being broken into all over the Hatch Warren area. Many of the targeted vehicles have been cars where property has been left inside and on display over night.

We would strongly advise residents not to leave anything of value in vehicles and if there is a need to do so, to try and keep it well hidden under a seat or locked in the glove box. If you are a van owner and keep tools in the vehicle overnight, we suggest that perhaps the vehicle where possible could be backed up against a wall or garage door to prevent the rear doors from being opened. We would also recommend that an alarm system is installed on any vehicle and if possible some flood lighting on the driveway.

How you can take action

Do you have a bike?

How well could you describe your bike?

It only takes a few seconds to steal one, so keep a record of your cycle details, and keep it secure to deter thieves.

  • Mark your bike with your postcode and house number
  • Keep a note of the bicycle frame number. This will add identification should the cycle be recovered by the police.
  • Take a photo of your bike on your mobile or with a camera and store it in a safe place. This will help us return your bike if and when it is recovered.

Please complete the attached Bike Safe form, email it to us and store the details safely.

Come and tell us what is important to you in your neighbourhood, and play your part in setting local priorities.  Contact your local Safer Neighbourhoods team using the details at the bottom of this page to find out about community meetings, beat surgeries or other events they may be planning.
