The Safer Neighbourhoods Team for Highclere, Burghclere, Ashmansworth, East Woodhay, Newtown, Ecchinswell and Sydmonton is:
PC Matt Deery (left) and PCSO Dan Lines (right).
We are based out of Whitchurch Police Station.
This neighbourhood is a large rural area to the north of Hampshire and borders with Thames Valley. The larger residential areas are Newtown, Bishops Green, Burghclere, Highclere and Woolton Hill, but we also cover numerous other smaller villages and hamlets.
Locally, we work with your community to find out what matters most where you live. We will work with you and our partner agencies to agree the main priorities for the area and how we will work together to tackle them.
The three community priorities identified were:
- Prevent thefts and burglaries from sheds and outbuildings (including theft of metal)
- Reduce anti-social behaviour throughout the Highclere beat area
- Reduce speeding across the beat
These are the priorities that people in your local area have agreed with the Safer Neighbourhoods team. You can influence these priorities by contacting your team, attending a meeting or speaking to us when you see us out and about.

You said: Prevent thefts and burglaries from sheds and outbuildings (including theft of metal)
We did:
May has seen an increase of thefts from garages and sheds.
Highclere
Three thefts from the Church Lane area - these thefts have been targeting garden machinery. One theft from properties on the road from Church Lane to Foxes Lane, again targeting garden machinery. One theft from Foxes Lane - bicycle stolen
Burghclere
Two sheds entered and nothing stolen from Ox Drove
One shed entered and nothing stolen from Breachfield
One shed entered and chainsaw stolen from Harts Lane
One bicycle stolen from Pound Lane
Metal items and a cockerel stolen from Spring Lane
A bicycle was stolen from The Clere School
As you will see we have had a few bicycles stolen locally and we would ask residents to ensure that bikes are locked and ensure that frame numbers are recorded. Please report any suspicious activity including any persons selling or storing bicycles locally.
We would also like to remind residents to fit shed alarms wherever possible.

You said: Reduce anti-social behaviour throughout the Highclere beat area
We did:
Local police are continuing to work with local housing associations to target households involved in anti-social behaviour.
Please report any of this behaviour 'in progress' to the police switchboard on 0845 045 45 45 or 101. If the incident has passed we would still like to hear about it for information and can be reported by phone or email.
We recently targeted anti-social behaviour in relation to mopeds in Bishops Green. Please advise us if the problem returns.
You said: Reduce speeding across the beat
We did:
There has been no speed enforcement carried out this month.
Offenders brought to justice
A man has been arrested and charged as a result of a house burglary in Ball Hill.
Other Incidents of note:
- A van was stolen from a locked compound in Harts Lane, Burghclere
- Youths were seen throwing stones from the bridge over the A34
- Local police are working very hard as a result of the recent series of thefts from sheds. Please continue to be vigilant and fit alarms where possible.
- We have both attended all of the recent parish assemblies and it was great to see them so well attended.
- You may have recently seen an article in the local paper about a Police Office in the grounds of Highclere Castle. This facility has kindly been made available by Lord and Lady Carnarvon and is to help support local police visibility in your community.
