The Safer Neighbourhoods Team for Candovers, Dummer and Mapledurwell is PC Andy Reid.

PC Reid is based out of Whitchurch Police Station.
Locally, we work with your community to find out what matters most where you live. We will work with you and our partner agencies to agree the main priorities for the area and how we will work together to tackle them.
Your Voice Counts
In an effort to hear what you would like my policing priorities to be for the forthcoming year, I have been actively engaged in rolling out the ‘Your Voice Counts’ forms to as many locations as possible.
The 'Your Voice Counts' forms that have been returned to me identify the below priorities.
The neighbourhood priorities are:
- Reduce non-dwelling burglaries in the Upton Grey and Candovers area
- Reduce speeding in the villages
- Prevent poaching and rural related crime
These are the priorities that people in your local area have agreed with the Safer Neighbourhoods Team. You can influence these priorities by contacting your team, attending a meeting or speaking to members of the team when you see them out and about.

Action we have taken in relation to your priorities
You said: Reduce non-dwelling burglaries in the Upton Grey and Candovers area
We did:
May I please make residents aware of recent house break-ins in the Basingstoke rural area where entry has been gained into houses via the cat flap and keys to high powered and expensive motor cars are stolen. I advise all residents to please lock their car keys away or take them upstairs to bed .
You said: Reduce speeding in the villages
We did:
Throughout the last month my colleagues and I have been taking considerable steps to reduce speeding and increase road safety. I am pleased to report that two men have been reported for various traffic offences. I am aware that traffic officers have also seized two vehicles which did not have a valid road tax disc.
High visiblity speed enforcement patrols have also taken place in various areas on the beat including Axford where I warned three people for excessive speed.
You said: Prevent poaching
We did:
I am pleased to report a reduction in rural poaching offences in this area. This has also had a knock on effect with other offences such as criminal damage to crops where vechicles are used and driven over crops to chase deer and hares.
The rural police have carried out two major anti-rural crime operations in the past five weeks targeting known offenders for rural crime. In this area a vehicle was seized and several people were reported for offences resulting from this operation.
Pub Watch
Pub Watch is also in operation in the area and aims to reduce incidents that happen after people have had too much to drink. Farm Watch is also in operation and provides a link between farms in the area and police. Anyone who would like to get involved in any of these schemes or anyone who would just like to speak to a local officer should contact me.
Crime statistics
I am pleased to be able to report that there has been a reduction in reported crime within this neighbourhood during the period between now and this time last year. Many of you will have read the annual report that I have produced. Reported crime has fallen from 184 offences to 124 offences. As I have already said there was a reduction in burglary non-dwelling offences.
There has been a slight reduction in the number of burglary dwellings from eight to six. Unfortunately one of our residents was subjected to a distraction burglary last year. If you are concerned about people calling at your address then let me know.
We work closely with other agencies including Hampshire Trading Standards in an effort to target offenders involved within this type of crime.
Neighbourhood Watch
I am extremely pleased to report that we have a very effective Neighbourhood Watch scheme where co-ordinators are updated with suspicious incidents and information aimed at targeting those thought to be involved in crime.
Where information is provided to me about suspicious activity I will always identify why suspicious people or vehicles are seen in our area.
It is the result of the flow of good information that we are able to target these people, and there have been arrests of offenders as the result of information from Neighbourhood Watch schemes and their residents.
