Ch Insp Andy BottomleyChief Inspector Andy Bottomley is responsible for the Basingstoke and Deane district.

Ch Insp Bottomley has come to the area after three years as district commander of Bitterne in Southampton.

With more than 23 years policing experience, Ch Insp Bottomley has enjoyed a variety of roles throughout the force.

In 1992 he was promoted to sergeant at Fleet and a year later moved to Basingstoke, where he performed different roles including custody and patrol.

In 1997, he was appointed as the community beat sergeant for Basingstoke town and oversaw the merger of the beats with the council ward areas and increased the number of officers on neighbourhood teams.

Three years later, Ch Insp Bottomley was promoted to inspector for firearms operations and was responsible for the delivery of firearms training across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight before his promotion to chief inspector in 2005.

Under his command at Bitterne, his team achieved an 18 per cent reduction in total crime and an improvement in the crime detection rate.

Ch Insp Bottomley also led work on the reduction of weapon-related violence and is particularly proud of the successes in this area, achieved through strong partnership working. He is also an accredited football commander and a force firearms commander.

Ch Insp Bottomley said: “I am really looking forward to the opportunity and challenge of returning to Basingstoke as district commander and I hope to be able to continue to improve performance, reduce crime and anti-social behaviour, bring criminals to justice and improve the confidence and satisfaction of local police across Basingstoke and Deane.

“I know that our teams already have strong community support and do their best to provide an excellent service, sometimes in difficult circumstances.  “This public support, along with that of our partners, is vital in ensuring Basingstoke and Deane remains a safe place to live, work and visit.”
