Action we have taken in relation to your priorities
You said...you wanted us to tackle anti-social behaviour and criminal damage
We did...the Northgate Safer Neighbourhoods Team worked
alongside Acredited Community Support Officers and Neighbourhood Wardens to increase patrols in affected areas, including Garbett Road and Winnall Manor Park. We also increased our patrols in the St Giles Hill area as a result of concerns raised by residents and Neighbourhood Watch members.
The areas around Stoney lane shops were hot spots for anti-social behaviour. Through tackling the young people involved, either by working with their parents, making arrests or working alongside Winchester City Council's Acceptable Behaviour Co-ordinator, there has been a noticable decrease in calls to this area related to rowdy or inconsiderate behaviour.
In relation to anti-social behaviour involving vehicles, a number of individuals in the area have been warned about the manner of their driving and in some cases have had their vehicles seized.
Your local team has worked with Winchester City Council and Housing Associations to deal with nuisance neighbours and families across the Northgate area. On occasions, getting involved at an early stage has been enough to improve things, but in some cases people have been evicted from their properties.
The team are running a number of operations including targeting criminal damage in the Kingsworthy area, speeding operations and a number of anti-social behaviour events across the area.
We have been running open spaces patrols on the Kings Playing fields, St Giles Hill to combat anti-social behaviour.
A motocross rider received a warning for riding his bike in an anti-social way, and no further reports of the bike have come in since the rider was issued with this warning.
The team are running a number of operations including targeting anti-social behaviour in the Winnall area, and speeding operations to raise speed awareness on residential roads.
You said...you wanted us to tackle drug abuse
We did...we have been working closely with the community and increased our patrols. These increased patrols, and the execution of warrants in the area, have led to individuals being found in possession of illegal drugs, and the discovery of what we believe to be cannabis factories. We have been working reactively as well as proactively.

You said...you wanted us to deal with traffic issues
We did...the Northgate area has been monitored by our colleagues in the Roads Policing Unit, now based at Whitchurch. However, to enhance the service we give to our community, PC Don Hagger will be using his previous Roads Policing Unit experience to conduct checks in the areas brought to our attention by your parish councils and Neighbourhood Watch groups.
The team have also organised displays and talks at local schools and colleges about the issues of speeding, drink driving and drug driving.

You said...you wanted us to increase the number of Neighbourhood Watch schemes
We did...work in this area continues and we are trying to increase the number of streets signed up to the scheme as well as increasing the amount od No Cold Calling Zones alongside Trading Standards.
A No Cold Calling Zone has been set up in Headbourne Worthy and we have implemented further zones in Kingsworthy, South Wonston and Weeke.
A No Cold Calling Zone has also been set up in Abborts Barton, on the Courtenay Road.
A No Cold Calling Zone is also to be set up from 19th of June in Crawley Village.
PC Hagger and PCSO Croutear will be dropping letters in on the 6th of June and visiting premises on the 19th of June.

The Neighbourhood Watch movement is the single largest voluntary organisation in England and Wales, with a presence of six million members. It aims to cut crime, the opportunities for crime and anti-social behaviour. It also provides reassurance to you, as local residents, whilst encouraging neighbourliness and closer communities. I’m sure you’ll agree that this only seeks to benefit the community; other benefits that are often included are that home insurance companies reduce the cost of policies if the owner is part of a Neighbourhood Watch scheme. Should anyone else need guidance on setting up a scheme,we will be only too happy to help.
You said...You wanted us to deal with poaching and hare coursing
We did...this is an ongoing issue in the area. We are working in partnership with local farmers, gamekeepers, water bailiffs and the Environment Agency. There is a local action plan in place if incidents are reported.
How you can take action
Come and tell us what is important to you in your neighbourhood, and play your part in setting local priorities.
The officers of the Northgate Team are regularly patrolling and interacting with the community, listening to your needs and concerns.
