Your local priorities
Locally, we work with your community to find out what matters most where you live. We will work with you and our partner agencies to agree the main priorities for the area and how we will work together to tackle them.
Neighbourhood priorities:
- Reduce purse thefts from the town centre. Like other retail centers some shoppers in Waterlooville have had their purses stolen whilst shopping in the stores or market. With the help of Waitrose in Waterlooville we have bought and distributed ‘clipitsafe’ purse lanyards which we have given free to shoppers identified as being vulnerable for this type of crime. These lanyards secure the purse to the handbag or wrist for added security. They are still available at Waterlooville police station or charity shops in the town.·
- Tackle anti-social behavior and criminal damage in our community. People in our community are regularly calling us about incidents of anti social behavior and criminal damage to their property, issues which really effect peoples lives – We will continue to work with our partners to disrupt this activity and identify offenders.
- Enforce other local issues that you have identified to us: Our community has also told us that these are other areas of concern to you. Groups of youths congregating in the town centre causing a nuisance and damage. Cycling on the pavements and through the shopping precinct, causing a danger to pedestrians. We are actively enforcing this point by issuing a £30 Fixed Penalty Ticket to anyone ignoring a warning.
About the area
Waterlooville Central Safer Neighbourhoods team is responsible for the electoral ward areas of Waterloo and parts of Stakes.
This is a commercial and residential area with a busy town centre which brings a variety of issues that affect the community e.g. anti-social behaviour, damage and licensing issues. It will also encompass a large housing and development area on the old ‘Plant Farm site’, to be known as Newlands Farm.
There are two further industrial areas within this area which are in the Aston Road area and Waterberry Drive location. The remainder of the Waterlooville Central section comprises of private housing and a small amount of social housing, with one school (Queens Enclosure Primary) and several pre-schools and nurseries.
Action we have taken in relation to your priorities
Our Aims
Waterlooville is already a very safe place to live and work, however we recognise that we can all be victims of crime and anti social behavior at some time. As such we aim to build confidence in our community by taking ownership of these issues to reduce crime and anti social behavior in your area. We will meet with our community regularly at advertised places where you can tell us what is concerning you most. We want to create a safe community by giving you good service and keeping you informed what we are doing.
We aim to improve the service given to everyone who contacts us by giving you an update or reassurance call.We aim to increase the quality of service to those we serve in the Waterlooville Central area, by reducing the fear of crime and antisocial behavior. We are your Safer Neighbourhood Team and as such want to be visible at times when we will be most effective and when you tell us you need us
Future Plans and Ongoing Issues
We will continue to patrol those areas identified as hotspots for damage and anti-social behavior. We have a close working relationship with the Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator for our area and we will continue to engage with residents to encourage you to take up Neighbourhood Watch schemes in those streets that are currently not covered. We disseminate information to the co-ordinator regularly, who in turn then passes out to all those in NHW.
If you would like more information about joining this scheme please speak to any of the team or visit your local police station.
Business watch meetings will be held quarterly with Business association for the Town Centre meetings running monthly. We will continue to be actively involved in the monthly pub watch meetings and we will complete regular licensing checks.
We want to build relationships with the young people in our area and we are starting to engage with the children with reading sessions (Waterlooville Library) and involve ourselves in their classes at Queens Enclosure School.
We feel by speaking and engaging with children when they are developing they get a better understanding of what the police do and become more confident speaking to us.
