Your local priorities
Locally, we work with your community to find out what matters most where you live. We will work with you and our partner agencies to agree the main priorities for the area and how we will work together to tackle them.
Waterlooville South Safer Neighbourhoods two top priorities are:
- Alcohol fuelled disorder and violence in public places. Young people continue to consume alcohol in public places, although our patrol efforts have shown that they are no longer congregating as much. In some instances, this has lead to violent incidents of disorder. Strict but supportive work with publicans has already seen a reduction in incidents associated with our public houses. Although not drink influenced, we are recording an unusual rise in minor juvenile violence associated with schools.
- Vehicle related nuisance and anti social behaviour. Vehicle related nuisance, particularly inappropriate use of mopeds, scrambler bikes and mini-motos. Some of this is on the highway and other incidents in woodland adjacent to residential areas
These are the priorities that people in your local area have agreed with the Safer Neighbourhoods team. You can influence these priorities by contacting your team, attending a meeting or speaking to members of the team when you see them out and about.
Action we have taken in relation to your priorities
Alcohol fueled disorder
High visibility foot and cycle patrol is preventing crime and disorder in the area. We are still working closely with licensees and robust use of legislation will help reduce this problem. A recent test purchase operation was conducted with pleasing results for Waterlooville. Licensees are showing responsibility and checking for identification. Members of the public are asked to report any groups of youths gathering with alcohol. Shop keepers are asked to challenge anyone who appears to be under 25 and ask for identification. Young people have had a lot of alcohol confiscated and poured away. This will continue. We are asking shops to put the receipts in the carrier bags to help identify offenders buying alcohol for young people.
Vehicle Related Nuisance
The recent increase in vehicle related nuisance, particularly inappropriate use of mopeds, scrambler bikes and mini-motos has been halted, through a combination of enforcement and partnership work. The area of Gundymoor Woods has been visited by the police, local authority and councillor and agreement was reached to place suitable blocks on access to the area. Regular patrols has seen a reduction in reports about off road motorcycling and a number of scrambler bikes have been seized.
