Your local priorities
Locally, we work with your community to find out what matters most where you live. We will work with you and our partner agencies to agree the main priorities for the area and how we will work together to tackle them.
Alver Valley Safer Neighbourhoods main priorities are:
- Parking issues in Lee on Solent High Street
- Parking issues in Salisbury Terrace
These are the priorities that people in your local area have agreed with the Safer Neighbourhoods team. You can influence these priorities by contacting your team, attending a meeting or speaking to members of the team when you see them out and about.
Action we have taken in relation to your priorities
The Alver Valley Team are pleased to confirm that for the third year running crime has dropped within the Alver Valley Neighbourhood ( Lee and Grange Wards ). The 2% reduction may not seem to be significant BUT it stills means less victims of crime.
Our detection rate is continuing to climb for the year and has risen by just over 2% compared to last year. My officers and I will continue to work towards reducing Crime and Disorder and the fear of crime through many avenues including community events, community engagement, finding out what your priorities are and what you want your neighbourhood team to concentrate on.
In March we conducted a survey at over 300 homes within the Grange Ward using the new Your Voice Counts leaflets.
Officers visited the homes and were well received by residents who have helped to set our top 3 community priorities and how they feel within their community. The challenge has been set by the community for us and our partners such as the council to deliver and over the course we will be providing updates under 'You said. We did'.
- Priority One: Youth nuisance / Youth provision
- Priority Two: Fly-tipping / Litter
- Priority Three: Speeding
71.8% feel safe or very safe in their local neighbourhood.
60.7% are very or fairly confident that the Police and local Council are dealing with the ASB and crime matters in their local neighbourhood.
The majority of people would like to be contacted by newsletter about the work completed by the Community Safety Partnership towards their priorities.
In relation to the Lee wards I will be looking at running a different event to establish the community priorities very soon.
What have we done recently?
In relation to parking longer than permitted, this would be a lower priority for police and more of a concern to the council due to the through-put of traffic in the town and potential impact on local businesses. The loss of the traffic warden role will not negate staff dealing with key issues such as public safety and dealing with unnecessary and wilful obstructions when reported as part of their duties. The responsibility for on-street parking enforcement will be retained by the police . As the previous logs show we will continue to monitor the situation and deal with offending vehicles. The areas of concern are is still be visited on a regular basis.
During the street surgery five vehicles were issued with parking tickets for time plate offences and one ticket was issued for parking on double yellow lines. The team will continue to deal with obstructions and double yellow line offences when in the area and passing through. Time plates will only be viewed as stated previously when the street surgery is present. There is a meeting to discuss parking enforcement this month with all partners involved. An update to follow next month
As previously mentioned the multi agency meeting took place last week, I am currently awaiting an update as to the out come. The team will continue to work closely with residents and businesses to tackle the parking issues in and around the target areas educating and using enforcement where required. A local councillor was going to be talking to businesses to remind them of the use of the seafront car parks and the good rates they get hopefully this will assist in reducing the parking issues and complaints.
We continue to review the parking issues in the High Street and Salisbury terrace. several patrols have been completed in the last week and 4 fixed penalty notices have been issued.we will continue to monitor and again liaise with the Lee Rangers football club to educate and encourage parkinga way from Salisbury Terrace
The Local Action Group (LAG) meeting took place on the 01/03/11. Speeding was removed as a priority as the group had seen a significant drop in reported issues. Parking was still an ongoing problem and the group wished this to remain as a priority for the area. Since the last update eight visits have been recorded to the area advice has been given to various people in the High STREET AND SURROUNDING ROADS and SALISBURY TERRACE. Thirteen Fixed Penalty Notices were also issued.
Routine patrols have continued in the Neighbourhood and parking issues dealt with in accordance with force policy as officers have come across offences. Several motorists have been spoken to and advice given, vehicles have also moved off on seeing patrolling officers (visible presence assisting) and 7 Fixed Penalty Notices have been issued within the last month.
Increase in reports of dog fouling and dogs being allowed to run off the lead.
Monthly update
Via the Local Action Group (LAG) Residents have complained about the rise in dog mess within the grange ward and dogs running around freely.
At present officers and PCSOs do not have the power to deal with dog fouling offences. This is dealt with by council enforcement officers. Senior management are liaising with partner agencies to see if this can be resolved. To date we have managed to get the council clean team to clear up Rowner Rec playing field and replace broken bins and lids. we also carried out a joint early morning operation, educating MOP 04/04 no tickets issued but MOP spoken to all positive.
Increase in untaxed vehicles in the Grange Ward.
Monthly update
Reports were received from members of the last L.A.G that residents had seen the number of untaxed vehicles rise in the Grange ward. They wanted this to become a community priority for the next 3 months. To date DVLA have completed one operation in the area which resulted in 9 vehicles being clamped. They have committed to completing another operation in the next couple of months. Officers will continue to patrol the neighbourhood and deal with vehicles appropriately. ACSOs have dealt with 36 untaxed cars and 3 abandoned cars.
Ongoing concern
The Rowner regeneration will continue to be a concern over the next 4 - 5 years.
Young people are still using the area as a play ground causing low level ASB to the residents within the direct vicinity. The neighbourhood team will continue to support the on site security by paying passinbg attention when in the area and dealing robustly with young people found committing ASB and offences.
We are also working with local housing providing details of those involved in ASB that are resident locally to see how we can redirect their behaviour. The neighbourhood team have also assisted in starting another youth event in the evening during the week targeting those that would be wondering around the estate bored, todate the numbers have been very good with excellent feed back from the young people and parents.
