Your local priorities

Locally, we work with your community to find out what matters most where you live. We will work with you and our partner agencies to agree the main priorities for the area and how we will work together to tackle them.

Privett and Alverstoke Safer Neighbourhoods team's three main priorities:

  • To reduce youth nuisance and drink related anti social behaviour in our parks across our neighbourhood which are Privett Park, Privett Gardens, Leesland Park, Stanley Park and Stokes Bay sea front.
  • To reduce speeding within the beat area.
  • To reduce anti-social parking around the schools within the beat area.

These are the priorities that people in your local area have agreed with the Safer Neighbourhoods team. You can influence these priorities by contacting your team, attending a meeting or speaking to members of the team when you see them out and about.

Action we have taken in relation to your local priorities

Anti-social behaviour

The team have been working hard to reduce youth nuisance, anti social behaviour and crime across the beat. We have been paying special attention to our priority areas utilising foot and cycle patrols until the early hours of the morning.

Any youth that is asked to account for their behaviour (anti socially or in possession of alcohol), has a letter sent to their parents. If 3 letters are sent in 3 months, then they will be considered for an anti social behaviour contract (ABC). However we do work closely with parents before placing youths on ABCs to suggest diversionary tactics with other agencies such as Motiv8 and YISP. These groups provide activities and support for the families, to divert the youths from any repeat offending behaviour. As a team we are able to focus on any areas that considered to have a problem.

The only way we know if a problem exists if the public let us know as soon as possible that an issue may be emerging.  At this time of year anti-social behaviour levels are very low but will as ever remain vigilant to any issues that arise.

Parking around schools

The team have been working very hard to deal with this issue.  In the initial stages we have commenced education within the schools through news letters etc and also lessons involving the kids themselves promoting road safety.  From that the team have now started to enforce the law through tickets being issues where applicable.  This will be an on ongoing issue as sadly many parents are very inconsiderate when it comes to the school run.

Current Issues

We are currently seeing a rise in thefts from garages and sheds especially the taking of pedal cycles from them.  Please ensure that all sheds and garages are locked properly and where possible it is worth considering locking cycles within so that they are not so easy to remove. We are also seeing a rise in thefts from cars.  Frustratingly the majority of these are where cars have been left insecure and also where property has been left on display.  Please ensure that cars are properly locked and that all property is removed or out of sight.  Again we need to try and make it as hard as possible for the criminal.

How you can take action

Beat/Street Surgeries

Our beat surgeries will be held at Gosport Borough Football Club, Privett Park on:

  • TBA

We are now working in partnership with Gosport Borough Football Club who are working towards their FA Community Club Charter.  As a result, we will be having our beat surgeries at this location and coinciding it with the home matches.  This is to ensure we are visible to as many members of the community as possible.

We have been happy to run these informal events and want to continue providing an informal contact point where local residents can speak to us about any issues affecting them and to provide advice.    What we would like to know is …Is there a community venue that you are aware of that would be ideal for a beat surgery?  Or is there an alternative way you would like us to provide our informal meetings?  Please let us know.

PACT – Partners and Communities Together

These are held twice a year and are open to Privett and Alverstoke residents. This is a chance for you to ask questions of your policing team, get an update on what we have been working on, and to generally find out what policing issues have been tackled in the neighbourhood area. The next PACT is scheduled for 19th October 2011 at 1900 hours, Thorngate Halls, Privett Road, Gosport.

Local Action Group (LAG)

A Local Action Group consists of a group, who have either a professional responsibility or personal relationship with the community. The purpose of a local action group is to identify issues and tensions within the community and discover solutions amongst its members, partner agencies and the wider community.

The Local Action Group is comprised of professionals such as the police, accredited community support officers, community safety officers and community leaders who aim to work in partnership to improve Privett and Alverstoke. We aim to develop opportunities for individuals and groups within the community and to make the neighbourhood a safer place in which to live and work. The Local Action Group meets quarterly.

If you would like to become involved in the Local Action Group please do not hesitate to contact Sergeant Logan on e-mail: gosporteast@hampshire.pnn.police.uk
