Inspector Page says: “Our aim is to promote community safety in order to improve the quality of life for residents and ensure Fareham remains a safe place in which to live, work, and visit. Our key priorities are to reduce violent crime, criminal damage and antisocial behaviour and in doing so reduce the fear of crime and raise levels of public reassurance.”
The team is currently working towards greater public engagement through mobile neighbourhood surgeries. The mobile surgeries receive a positive response due to the mobility aspect.
A campaign to promote cycle security is underway, targeting those that are found unlocked and offering free locks.
In the town centre, lanyards are available for shoppers to secure their purses to prevent theft. The lanyards have been a great success in terms of public reassurance and crime prevention.
Youth club initiatives are now running at Portchester Community centre and Highlands Road.
The most significant campaign is the introduction and enforcement of a borough wide alcohol control area aimed at tackling the growing street drinking culture, especially among young people. The purpose of the campaign is to reduce alcohol fuelled violence, damage and antisocial behaviour linked to drinking.
