Following an assessment of our practices, we have been awarded permission to display the “two ticks” symbol on our literature as a positive, visible sign of our commitment, to recruit and retain disabled staff.
There was an official media launch on 12th June 2006, when the Chief Constable was presented with a certificate, marking this achievement, by Alan Browne, the District Operation Manager for Jobcentreplus.
So What Does This Mean in Practice?
Anyone who is disabled, and meets the minimum criteria for a vacancy, can be assured of being put forward for the selection process for that role. Hampshire Constabulary will maintain its practice of supporting disabled applicants through the selection process, by making adjustments wherever possible to cater for individual needs.
Systems are in place to allow staff who are disabled to discuss with their manager, at any time, but at least once a year, what can be done to make sure they can develop and use their skills and knowledge.
Staff who become disabled, can be assured that we will do all we can to help them remain working with Hampshire Constabulary, supported by management and our Occupational Health Unit.
Our commitment is on-going and ensures that managers and other key staff within Hampshire Constabulary develop their knowledge and awareness of how best to support disabled staff.
We regularly review and improve our practice.
Disability Support Group
The 12th June also saw the official media launch of a new internal support group, the Hampshire Disability Support Group, whose aim is to provide focused, relevant advice, guidance and support to staff who are disabled, or are themselves supporting a colleague, employee or relative who is disabled.
