Please Note: - All calls received by the force are recorded for police purposes
Please only use 999 to report emergency situations. There is a helpful mnemonic to remember when to use 999:
- Phone 999 only if:
- Offenders are nearby
- Life is at risk
- Injury is caused or threatened
- Crime or disorder is in progress
- Emergency situations
To ensure that the most appropriate response can be provided, Call Management has a number of departments, each structured to deal efficiently with the variety of contacts received.

101
101 is our easy to remember 24-hour number for non-emergency crime and anti-social behaviour issues as well as general enquiries.
See the 101 FAQ page for more information, or visit the national 101 website which also provides information in alternative languages.
101 is just for non-emergency issues. In an emergency you should dial the 999 emergency service. Calls to 101 are answered within 30 seconds. Please be aware that you won't be able to call 101 from outside England and Wales.
Switchboard
This is located at Hampshire Police Headquarters in Winchester. It receives all calls made on 101, our non-emergency / general enquiry number. Over 1.6 million calls are routed from here every year. We aim to answer 90% of calls within 30 seconds. You can also contact the switchboard on 01962 841534.
Force Enquiry Centre
The Force Enquiry Centre is located at Police Headquarters in Winchester and is situated alongside the switchboard. It handles more than 50,000 calls a month, from the switchboard and 999. 999 calls are answered within 10 seconds, transferred calls within 30 seconds. Services include:
- Taking reports of, and investigating, minor crime on the telephone
- Booking appointments to see a police officer if appropriate
- Taking and passing on messages for police officers and staff
- Recording lost and found property
- Advice service for general enquiries
Force Control Room
Our Force Control Room is located at our southern support Headquarters at Netley, near Southampton. Over 1800 incidents a day are dealt with from here.
This is where most 999 calls are directed for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight and in addition calls received from the switchboard and the Force Enquiry Centre that require a police deployment.
Resulting incidents are recorded, police officers deployed and incidents controlled, utilising the Hampshire Police Airwave radio network.
