March 09 - I'm writing to thank you for taking action against the boy racers in Newport and the Island as a whole. It's been such a pain for years now, I'm glad you're going to try and sort the problem out.

January 09 - I attended a driver awareness course last week having been caught doing 39mph in a 30 zone.  I wrongly went with the attitude that I would be spoken down to for three hours. How wrong I was. I was pleasantly suprised by the contents of the course and I have come away from it with nothing but postive words and thoughts. I have been boring my family and friends with all the facts and figures every since! The trainers were excellent and delivered the message to me without making me feel like a criminal or an idiot! The course contents were very thought provoking and I will not forget the three street light rule or will I question again why certain roads are set at 20/30/40mph etc. Never before have mass and velocity made so much sense to me! So really I just wanted to say, it may have cost me £70 but I think EVERYONE should do this course, it's certainly made me more aware on the roads this week and I hope I'm a better driver for it now.

I would like to say a big thank you to Christine in the domestic violence unit for all her time and patience. She offerred invaluable advice, was always there at the end of a phone and took the trouble to find a refuge at the drop of a hat for myself and my two children. What a great, dedicated lady. We are now happily settled in our new home and looking forward to Christmas knowing that we will be safe, all together and very very happy. Many thanks.

As a Portsmouth born exile I really look forward to my rare trips back to Pompey, especially if it includes a visit to Fratton Park.  So I really wonder what on earth you lot were thinking with all the effort you put into making football fans sit down!  Come on its pretty far down the scale of horrors! I am sure you are fed up of hearing this,  but find some real criminals.

(edited) Response from Acting Inspector Hewitt, Portsmouth Operations Department: The issue of standing up at football matches is a difficult one for all - a lot of fans wish the practise to continue, yet it is one of the ground regulations that all fans must remain seated.

One of the priorities for officers employed within Fratton Park on a matchday is to provide support for the stewards employed by the football club whose role is to ensure the safety of spectators.  The stewards, therefore, are responsible for enforcing the ground regulations including the issue of fans sitting down rather than standing.  During the Hull match it was decided by the football club that stewards would enforce the ground regulation in relation to fans that were standing in the KJC Stand.  A small number of police officers were deployed to that area to assist the stewards in this action if necessary.   No arrests were made by police officers in relation to the actions carried out by the stewards in enforcing the ground regulations.  The football club can take many sanctions against fans that persistently stand in a seated area, including ejection from Fratton Park and withdrawal of season tickets. I agree with your comment that officers should be targeting criminals, and this is obviously our aim.

I can confirm that all officers deployed at Fratton Park during a football match are in addition to those on duty elsewhere in the city and that Hampshire Constabulary is reimbursed for the services of the officers present.

To all emergency service who attended the accident on the A31 on October 10, 2008.  I wish to express my heartfelt thanks to all of you for all that you did to help us. t may just have been another day at the office for you, but for us it was horrendous and terrifying. We deeply appreciated your rapid response and professionalism, but we were also deeply touched by your kindness and compassion when dealing with us.

In September 08, PCSO Steve Smith and PCSO Guy Dempsey visited my mother-in-law at her house in Basingstoke in connection with vandalism to the garden wall at the property. We would like to formally thank these officers and register our praise for their conduct during their visit. We would like to specifically praise their communication skills and training. They were thoroughly reassuring and effective and were extremely courteous and professional. We hope this is passed onto them and their superiors as we believe the constabulary should be very pleased and proud to have such able and sensible young men on their team. Thank you.

In July 08, I experienced a puncture to my car tyre whilst driving in the outside lane of the A34 south of Sutton Scotney and called the police for assistance. Firstly I would like to apologise to the lady in the control room for not being able to give her concise directions to my location. This was due to the state of panic that I was in after my three children and I had left the car and were on the grass verge of this busy road. The mobile I was using was due to go flat at any minute, which was also worrying.

I would be very grateful if you could please pass my sincere thanks to the police officer who came to our aid.  His guidance and calming manner were greatly appreciated. I cannot express how reassuring it was to have a police officer arrive so promptly.   Unfortunately I forgot to ask his name at the time, but I hope you will be able to check this for me and pass on my thanks and appreciation to him directly.

I wish to pass on my thanks to all the officers that attended and swiftly dealt with the invasion of travellers on our village green. Everyone that attended had a fantastic attitude. Despite many of them having to stay on duty passed thier finishing time. Without such a positive response I doubt that we would have had the same result.

I wanted to access the website to find my local neighbourhood team.  The postcode search on the home page gave me no response.  My postcode is *******

Response: This has now been fixed. You can find your neighbourhood team using the postcode search on this website.

I get really fed up with the Police being knocked, you guys do a excellent job, and when ***** went missing. Call centre, excellent.  First visit from police an hour later. The plane was put up and you found him at 10.45 wandering 8 miles awqay from home, and you brought him back. He'd been missing a total of 6 hours. How can I thank you enough. You do a great job, and I am classified as the middleclass who has lost faith in the police, this is rubbish. Without your swift help I dread to think what would have happened.Thank you again to the Gosport Police.

Three friends and I were riding (motorcycling) on the A32 last evening when we were stopped and pulled over by two of your officers: one dealing with one of my friends and me, his colleague dealing with my other friends. None of us had committed any offence and we were told that the police were involved in an awareness campaign aimed at reducing the number of accidents and fatalities on this popular stretch of road - a good call.

...It's great that Hampshire Constabulary are working to help riders enjoy their riding for longer by encouraging skills development and defensive riding techniques. Your officers were handing out DVDs, visor-wipes and details about "Bikesafe", all good stuff. I've watched the DVD and was impressed. I work in communications and it was refrefreshing to see a safety/skills development film that is entertaining and informative rather than patronising and dull - I think your DVD will get a lot of people thinking about their riding and if most viewers apply just one or two of the tips given, that will be a good thing.

I would also like to comment on the manner and conduct of the officer that spoke to me. He communicated very clearly what was happening and why, and he had a friendly, approachable manner: ideal for the job in-hand and a good ambassador for the force. I think your initiative is a good one and thank you for your positive and practical involvement in making biking a safer activity.

I was unfortunate enough to suffer a flat tyre when in East Meon, a fairly remote village, I was driving slowly as I thought something was wrong and pulled over into a layby.  A police officer who had been behind me pulled over to see if I was okay.  As i was a long way from home and could not call anyone to help, he kindly changed my tyre for me! Well beyond the call of duty

This is just a big thank you to the night shift team of the 17th May 2008. I was a civilian observer for that shift and I found the experience highly rewarding and insightful. PC. Adam Edwards and PC Malcolm Stuart were exemplory officers who showed genuine interest and experience to deal with multitude of calls. I am extremely thankful to both of them for answering questions that I had about policing and it has reiterated my reasons for applying. Thank you very much.

I had to go into Fleet Police Station. I was spoken to by a police officer called Janet. I can honestly say she was fantastic. She helped me and made me feel welcome. If only all police officers spoke to you in this manner I believe they would be more appreciated instead of people trying to avoid them! I can not tell you how good the lady was.

We are a business [in Southampton]. Last week your two beat officers made themselves known to us.  This is the first time in our 6 years at this addresss that we have been visited by our local police.  They were both very polite and friendly and we were very happy to see them.  best of all they asked if they could do anything for us and we asked them to tackle the litter problem.  The next day they were back picking litter - fantastic.  Local police, on the beat, talking to people is what we want.  Well done, more of it please.

Can you please tell why the police had to close the motorway after a non fatal accident for such a long time? The M27 was closed for hours after yesterday's accident causing major traffic disruption to just about everyone who uses the Motorway. I sincerely hope all involved make a speedy and full recovery, but ultimately the outcome will probably be a minor prosecution for one of the drivers and a few insurance claims. I understand that an investigation will have to take place, but why oh why does it take so long? Surly by now this type of unfortunate events must be routine for the Police to deal with. Why did both carriageways need to be closed? Could not some of the lanes be kept open? I dont mean to criticise the Police in anyway your jobs hard enough as it is, but I do find it extremely difficult to understand.

Response: The motorway was closed as one of the injured people was a child and there was concerns regarding a seriouys head injury.  It wasn't until a CT scan had been carried out that it was apparent that the injury was not as serious as first thought.

"Phoneline very quick and efficient...two officers were sent out within 5 minutes. I was so greatful. Thank you so much for putting my mind at rest and checking i was ok."

"Having returned late from London I was at Fratton train station at around 1am Sunday morning. I was unable to get through to a taxi as it was permanently engaged and there was a man waiting at the station nearby who I was slightly concerned about. A police car drove past the taxi rank and then reversed back to me and asked me if I was ok. She also asked if I was with the guy that was waiting. I said no and that I couldnt get through to the taxi company so she and her male colleague kindly offered me a lift to a local taxi rank as they didnt want to leave me there. I was so grateful for their generosity as it was not a nice place to be on your own at night and who knows how long I could have been there or what could have happened. I just wanted to write to say thank you to those officers as I know people are often quick to write and complain when they are unhappy about something yet don’t make the effort when the opposite occurs. So thank you."

"Yesterday while driving cross country I lost my route, ending up in Aldershot.  I came across two of your officers on mobile camera duty. I pulled over and asked for directions. The officer I spoke to was extremely helpful and polite and I was back on route in no time. Unfortunately I did not have the foresight to note down his name or police number.  Had I done so I would have mentioned the officer directly in this positive feedback.  Many thanks."

"I received a courtesy letter advising that my parked car had the mount for a sat nav on show. I really appreciate the trouble taken to write to me advising how to reduce the risk of break-in.  Thank you very much."

"I would like to thank the police who patrol London Road, North End, Portsmouth and North End Avenue. I always see community officers on their cycles and walking when out shopping. This makes me feel safer. Thanks."

"Credit where its due ; I recently parked my car in Parklands Hospital car park. I had stupidly left my sat nav on display, whereas I usually lock it in the boot, having been made aware by you that they were being stolen in the area.  I was pleased to get a very nice letter from police warning me about leaving my sat nav on display in my car.  I was really impressed by this, well done police in Basingstoke I say. Thankyou. Please do make sure that the officer who took my registration number down and bothered gets full credit for what he or she has done, and anyone else involved in this."

"I was in Southampton delivering a parcel.  I broke down en route and decided to walk from Southampton Common to the depot.  I noticed Portswood Police Station and thought I'd better let them know as it was quite dark and the car wasn't parked in the best of places. The lady behind the counter couldn't have been more helpful if she tried.  She offered me a cup of tea, and let me use the phone to make arrangements as my mobile phone battery was flat.  As I am from Swansea this was a great help as I don't know what I would've done otherwise.  Just wanted to thank her for all her help."

"Who has decided that my son and his friends & any other 17 year old cannot watch a movie in Basingstoke? My son and two friends drove from Lightwater in Surrey and collected a friend from Hartney Wintney to go to the movies on Friday night and were told that due to a curfew they were not allowed access to the cinema. It was 9.30 pm. They were told it was to stop under-18s from going to night clubs. I just want a simple explanation as to why kids cannot gain acces to the movies. They are not trying to enter night clubs or pubs."

Action taken: After investigating this feedback, it has been discovered that this is not a police curfew but one put in place by the cinema company. This has been fed back to the person who submitted the comment.

" I would just like to say thank-you to the two police officers who attended a collision on Leigh Road, Eastleigh, when my daughter had a bump in her car.  Both were extremely caring and professional towards her and the situation. I'm sure you get plenty of negative feedback, so I'm sure its nice to get some positive!"

"Unfortunately I do not know the names of the Officers/Sergeants that have dealt with my case. On the date provided  I was taken into the police station suffering mental health issues which had lead to an offence being committed by myself earlier that evening. I would like to thank all involved for their supportive and human approach and the kindness in which I was treated. All the police, from the officers who were called to my property, through to the officers, interviewer and sergeants at the station were compassionate and respectful. I would also like to thank everybody for all the help and advice they have provided me with to help in my recovery and the support given to my family."

"I'm emailing under the 'other comments' category because I don't want this to be perceived as a complaint, but as feedback, that might help you improve the public perception of the police.  I was at Port Solent at the weekend and saw the Hants Constabulary poster appealing for witnesses to the horrible murder that happened at Lloyds Bar on January 5th.  I'm sorry - I don't have any information for you.  What I want to make you aware of, and what I know is of miniscule importance to the investigation itself, is that the poster appealing for witnesses mis-spells the word 'witnesses' as "witness's".  Your professional organisation being unable to spell that particular word reflects badly on you all.  Sorry to have to make you aware of this, but if nobody does, then the negative perception just continues.  I hope your investigators will have success in finding the person who carried out the stabbing."

Action taken: This has been brought ot the attention of the investigating officer and our graphics and corporate communications departments, so that we can ensure it does not happen again in future.

"Why do you ask for my ethnicity on your notes below--I consider it racist and require an answer. What bearing could it possibly have."
See the FAQs for an explanation of why we ask for ethnicity and other details.
