Secure Your Cycle

More than half of all bicycle thefts are from homes, so ensure that your bicycle is stored safely and locked up securely.

  • Keep your bike in a secure garage or shed and keep the door locked.
  • Secure it to an immovable object, or consider installing a floor or wall mounted anchor lock for extra security.
  • Keep it out of public view.
  • Marking your bicycle with your postcode and house number acts as a deterrent to thieves and assists the police in recovering property.
  • Quick release accessories are vulnerable. Consider replacing the lever with a security bolt or remove them when leaving the bike.
  • Lights are made detachable so remove them before a thief does.
  • Keep a note of the bicycle frame number, this will aid identification should the cycle be recovered by police.
  • Store a digital photograph of the bicycle in a safe place, such evidence is key when police recover property.

It only takes a few seconds for an opportunist thief to steal your bike, so put a lock on it and give thieves a hard time.
