Lesbian and Gay Liaison Officers

The role of a LAGLO and how to contact them

Lesbian and Gay Liaison Officers (LAGLOs) are police officers and police staff who have a special understanding of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGB&T) issues.

Their roles are varied and including working with the LGB&T communities in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight to build trust and confidence, encourage people to report homophobic and transphobic hate crimes and support LGB&T victims of crime and the officers investigating the offences.

What do LAGLOs do?

Set up in 1996, the role has already proved important in helping police in many inquiries, including two murder inquiries where LAGLOs were able to give informed advice on how to approach potential witnesses and informants.

We currently have more than 100 LAGLOs, located at all the main police stations in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

LAGLOs are available to provide advice to their colleagues about crime investigations affecting LGB&T communities and to people who identify as LGB&T.

LAGLOs visit gay friendly venues frequently to help foster good relations with the community and listen to local concerns.

Call Hampshire Constabulary on 101 and ask to speak to a LAGLO

We will treat any information you give sensitively and in confidence.

For non-urgent advice, ask for the LAGLO in your specific area and a message can be left for them to contact you.

We also have LAGLO staff and officers in our Force Enquiry Centre and Control Room so that callers can speak to a LAGLO at the first point of contact.

Call Management LAGLOs can take the details of any incident, providing support and reassurance during the initial support.

To contact your local LAGLO, for non-urgent advice, either ring 101 and ask to leave a message for them to contact you, or email postmaster@hampshire.pnn.police.uk where your message will be emailed on to the LAGLO, who will deal with your enquiry when they are next on duty.
