Hampshire LGB&T Resource Group

The Hampshire Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Resource Group is a support service for staff in the constabulary.

Its members are also the driving force that ensures the force engages with the LGB&T communities in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

Established in 2000, the group has been honoured by the charity Stonewall as a Star Performer.

Chair Inspector Julie Fry said:  “I’m proud of the achievements the Resource Group has made over the last decade.

“We’ve helped to develop an extensive network of Lesbian and Gay Liaison Officers across the force who work closely with out LGB&T communities and help get justice for the victims of homophobic and transphobic hate crimes.

“Our continued success with Stonewall over the last few years has prompted our partners in the fire service, military and other police forces to approach us for advice in developing their own services for LGB&T people.”

The group runs a confidential mailing list and organises social events for Hampshire Constabulary’s LGB&T employees who may otherwise feel isolated.

Made up of a core of ten ‘out’ gay and lesbian staff, the group's aims include:

  • supporting staff who have come into conflict with other personnel about their sexual orientation
  • acting as a resource for supervisors who experience issues about sexual orientation with their staff
  • liaising with other staff associations and departments about equal rights for LGB people
  • supporting the constabulary's Lesbian and Gay Liaison Officers in their role of supporting our wider communities

Through its associate members scheme, the group is also able to give advice on transgender issues.
