Criminal Justice Department

The Crimal Justice Department is centrally managed, and works within the Crime and Criminal Justice portfolio in support of Operational Command Units (OCUs) in the delivery of justice in the interests of the victims of, and witnesses to, crime across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

Together with partners in the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), the department forms the Prosecution Team. Based at seven sites across the counties, we work together to "lead simple, speedy, summary justice for all".

The department is made up of Criminal Justice Units (CJU), Victim and Witness Care, Central Ticket Office and the Force Custody Team.

Spanning Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, the department represents an investment of more than 350 staff, a number of whom work on a flexible basis. It is headed by Jo Rowland, with a small headquarters team responsible for the strategic delivery of criminal justice in support of operational policing.

The department is responsible for all post charge case building. Once someone has been arrested and charged with a crime, the paperwork is passed to relevant Criminal Justice Unit (CJU), who in partnership with the CPS, make sure that it is ready to go to court. During this process we also provide support to victims and witnesses involved in the case.
