Director of Finance and Resources

Michael Coombes acts as the chief constable‘s financial advisor and has a professional accountability in relation to financial matters to the Treasurer to the Police Authority.

Director of Finance, Michael Coombes, is responsible to the chief constable for ensuring all financial activities undertaken within the force, or contracted out under the supervision of the force, are administered in accordance with statutory requirements, best professional practice and the Police Authority’s Contract Standing Orders and Financial Regulations. 

The director of finance's portfolio encompasses Transport Department, Business and Property Services, Financial Services Department and Financial Accounting Department. These departments have approximately 148 staff in total who are located at Police Headquarters, Bar End, Fareham, Basingstoke, Ember House (Winnall), the Isle of Wight and Support HQ at Netley. 

In addition, local Finance and Business managers act as a link between the portfolio departments and their Operational Command Unit sectors.
