Assistant Chief Constable (Human Resources and Operational Services)

Assistant Chief Constable Steve Dann  joined Hampshire Constabulary on June 15, 2009, taking responsibility for the Human Resources and Operational Services portfolio containing the Operations Operational Command Unit.

Steve Dann, was born in Stockport, Cheshire where he lived until joining the Metropolitan Police Service in 1981.

Prior to joining Hampshire Constabulary ACC Dann was the Borough Commander for Hackney in East London. He is particularly proud of the work he has done with the diverse communities of Hackney, relationship building and partnership working particularly with the local authority. Since being appointed as ACC he has continued this work and is both the Hampshire Constabulary and National ACPO lead on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender matters.

In 2006, when promoted to Chief Superintendent, ACC Dann worked with the 'July Review Group' implementing organisational learning from the terrorist events of July 2005 and the death of Jean Charles de Menezes at Stockwell. His career has also includes roles as a nationally accredited Senior Investigating Officer and he has worked on more than 40 live kidnaps (all of which were successfully concluded), in the Professional Standards department, and as a deputy OCU commander.

Since being appointed to the rank of Assistant Chief Constable at Hampshire in June 2009, his portfolio has included Human Resources, Operations and Learning and Development. ACC Dann has also completed national accreditations in Strategic Firearms Command and is an Advanced Public Order Commander.

 

As ACC Operational Services, Steve Dann has a portfolio which covers:

  • Human Resources and Training
  • Custody and identification
  • Operations Operational Command Unit (includes Air Support, counter-terrorism, Roads Policing Unit, Critical Incidents, Dog Support Unit, Force Support Unit, Firearms, Public Order and Critical Incident Cadre).
