Roads Policing Unit

The Roads Policing Unit (RPU) has an important role in providing specialist skills and support across the counties of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, with specific responsibilities for policing the strategic road network and casualty reduction.

Other information available about the Roads Policing Unit and the work that the unit does is available via the below links:

We will use location, victim, and offender profiling to provide our staff with the best possible casualty and road crime intelligence.

We know of the benefits of high visibility policing in making public places feel safer and its importance in reducing the fear of crime. Police presence will be in places and at times where casualty reduction and public reassurance are maximised.

Hampshire Constabulary’s Roads Policing Unit is responsible for policing the 349km of motorways and trunk roads across the two counties. The role of the RPU is to:

  • Provide an emergency response
  • Reduce road collision casualties
  • Minimise disruption to the free flow of traffic
  • Provide any possible assistance and reassurance to road users
  • Provide specialist support services to the force
  • Target travelling criminals
  • Ensure that the division makes the most efficient use of all its resources
