Operational Support
These teams work together with the dedicated aim of supporting the territorial OCUs in providing the highest levels of local policing and protecting the community.
The Operations OCU is led by a Chief Superintendent, and includes many dynamic teams whose officers are operationally and technically at the forefront of the force.
Pushing the boundaries of policing nationally is the Critical Incident Cadre, a team of four chief inspectors and one superintendent which provides an operational command in response to critical incidents across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The constabulary is the first force in the country to create such a cadre.
The OCU also incorporates the Roads Policing Unit, which has a nationally recognised track record on road safety and casualty reduction, and works within the Operations team.
The Operations support teams include the highly trained canines and officers of the Dog Support Unit, the Tactical Firearms Support Unit and the Force Support Unit, whose innovative practices are leading the way nationally over a wide range of public order policing issues.
The OCU also incorporates the Civil Contingencies planning team, which is responsible for ensuring the force is ready to respond to any civil emergency situation, and produces exercises for officers and other agencies to test their preparedness.
The Operations OCU is at the forefront of policing both locally and nationally, and is firmly committed to building on its existing strengths to underpin the constabulary’s status as a strategic force.
